Late afternoon stat of the day: At least one location in the Upper Valley touched the century mark (100 degrees) for the first time this calendar year when Zapata County airport did it at 335 PM! Well see if nearby locations (Rio Grande City, Falcon Dam) did the same early tomorrow when their observations are posted. Is it unusual to see 100 this soon across the Rio Grande Plains/Upper Valley? Not really; the long term average for Rio Grande Citys first 100 degree day is April 9, and Falcon Dams on April 16 (each in Starr County). McAllen/Miller airport fell a degree shy; their average first triple-digit high is May 14th.
