Lately I have been feeling like a race horse waiting for the gate to open! Today this comes back to my memory as it does periodically, the 2008 Kentucky Derby. This is the only derby race I ever remember so clearly. A young horse barely 3 yrs old named Big Brown. He was not likely to win due to inexperience, it was only his 4th race. Furthermore he was positioned in the 20th gate. Big Brown held position 6 after the gates opened for a majority of the race, just keeping pace, on the final stretch he exploded and blew past all the horses as if they were standing still, he won by almost 5 lengths! He waited for the right time. He was the first horse in Kentucky Derby history to win starting from the #20 gate. I just read more about Big Brown....he was also from Brooklyn, New York.
