Lately, I have been watching and listening to folks and what they are talking about. I have over heard many Young (from ages from around, 18-20+) talking about the state of their lives. One incident that has stuck in my mind, a young mother grocery shopping with 3 small children. She is pushing her cart and letting the 2 older children run free. The 2older children were very loud and were knocking items off the shelves. While this is going on, she, (the mother), is engaged in a conversation with another young mother. This mother had 4 young children and one was a very young infant. So these two young mothers are not watching said loose children. They are complaining that their Food Stamps had been cut. One of these mothers actually commented that she was probably going to have another child in order to break even. All the while these two mothers off-spring are still running wild. I am trying to get my items a hurry away., when I witness one of these little monsters walks up to an elderly person and throws a can and hits the lady. I took this childs hand and took them over to the mothers. Explained that the one child had hurt the elderly lady. You can imagine my dismay when the mother screamed at me! Evidently she felt her little darling, was just being a child and who was I to tell on them? I could not hold back any longer! I looked both these young mothers and said, pardon me if, I offended either of you, but it looks like you need to start restocking the shelves. They both then noticed what their children had done. My last nerve felt like it was being pounded with a sledge hammer! These 2 mothers grabbed their off-spring and laughingly walk away. Now, I may be considered Old School, but was I wrong to point out the damage done to the cans being thrown? Was I wrong to point out that one of the children had harmed another person? I think this type of behavior is completely unacceptable, not only on the part of the children but the parent is not taking responsibility for their children or their own action/inaction. Please let me know, what you would have done?
