Latest wildfire risk forecast for Friday, September 13: "The wildfire hazard has climbed to VERY HIGH for the Slave Lake Wildfire Management Area. Use extreme caution when working or playing in the forest as conditions are dry. For Friday the forecast is calling for warm temperatures and winds 20 kilometers per hour. Delay any burning until the winds are calm as under the windy conditions a fire can spread very quicky and be difficult to control. There was one new wildfire late Monday afternoon. Firefighters patrolling in a helicopter spotted smoke about 57 kilometers north of High Prairie. The wildfire was quickly extinguished and was 0.01 hectares in size. The cause was lightning from several days ago. Since the start of fire season in the Slave Lake Wildfire Management Area we have seen 90 wildfires and just under 39 hectares burned."
