I could be eating a slow learner.” ~Lynda Montgomery I would like to point out that no matter how dysfunctional your childhood is or was, you do not have the right to inflict pain and harm upon others. We all have our growing pains and juvenile nightmares, and these are not valid excuses either. My counselor says I have a preoccupation with vengeance, we’ll just see about that. When in doubt, utilize self-deprecating humor. Try not to take yourself too seriously; gently poke fun at your own mistakes and you may discover they sting much less. Even if the joke falls flat, the only person you risk hurting or offending is yourself. Therefore, I must insist that just a silly autobiography, and if I am ever accused of a serious crime, I want to say that my mommy made me do it! Have they figured out my twisted sense of humor yet? I mean really, if you cant laugh at yourself.... then laugh at other people! Call up your sense of humor, even if its long distance. A well-timed, tasteful joke, free of hurtful sarcasm or ridicule, neutralizes a tense situation and helps resolve petty disagreements. Laughter relieves tension and stress, elevates mood, enhances imagination, boosts resilience, and even increases energy. Laughter is not a sign of feeling less grief or feeling “less love. Laughter is a symbol of more happy memories and joyful thoughts than sad ones. Its an indication that our loved one who has died would love to have us laugh again. They are telling you, “Its okay to laugh and enjoy your life, that’s what I want for you.” Prisoner of war, Gerald Coffee utilized humor with American soldiers in the Vietnam POW camps. “Laughter sets the spirit free through even the most tragic circumstances. It helps us shake our heads clear, get our feet back under us and restore our sense of balance. Humor is integral to our peace of mind and our capacity to go beyond survival.” Sharing the enjoyment of humor creates a sense of intimacy and bonds between people. These qualities define solid, successful relationships. The people I have lost would want me to be happy. It’s understandable that I must be careful with my damaged heart. I try to be poised and surround myself with positive people. Confident people transfer their emotions to us and make us feel relaxed and calm. The most incredible people Ive known are those who have known trials, struggles, pain and loss, and have survived and thrived. It isn’t given to us to know the times when those around us are feeling exposed, and the lightest touch can either wither or restore the. Be the kind of person who leaves an indelible mark of kindness upon others. Conduct yourself in a way that when you interact with people, they feel better about themselves after simply meeting you. Repeat the “Golden Rule” in your head on a daily basis (treat others as you would like to be treated), and improve the lives of others. In this you will improve your own life...
