Leading Economic Index Rises Slightly Less Than Expected In May With positive contributions from financial indicators partly offset by negative contributions from other indicators, the conference Boardβs report showing only a slight increase by its reading on leading U.S. economic indicators in the month of May. The leading economic index edged up by 0.1% in May. Economists had been expecting the index to rise by 0.2%.Eurozone consumer confidence and business figures improve Eurozone consumer confidence improved sharply in June while the slump in private sector business activity eased further.
