Legend has it that an Ethiopian goat farmer discovered the coffee bean when his goats came back from a leisurely nibble absolutely bursting with energy. The farmer shared his findings with the local monks, who used the coffee beans to stay awake during evening prayers. In 2013, coffee might be less about prayer, but is certainly still relied on to stay awake, with coffee machines finding their way into homes and offices so they can be used at any time throughout the day - or night.
