Legislation update. A lot going on this week. See link for the full details and my notes below for the quick read. vabike.org/hb1342-following-too-closely-clears-subcommittee/ HB1746, the Mandatory Sidepath bill has now been assigned to Transportation, and could also be heard on Tuesday, but more likely will be assigned further to Sub2 for hearing next Monday at 7 a.m. This bill would require bicycles to use side paths instead of roads wherever a side path exists... Wednesday afternoon the Crossing the double yellow line, Dooring, and Sen. Reeves version of the Dont follow too closely bill in Senate Transportation. Thursday morning at 7 a.m. will see the three Maintenance reimbursement bills, to wrap up a very busy week. These bills would provide funds for bicycle facilities and could actually pass if we show strong support. I may take the day of and drive to Richmond to see how the sausage is made. No referral to a committee yet of the Stop for Pedestrians in a Crosswalk or the bill to Ban Handheld Cell Phone Usage When Driving but these bills should be referred to committees soon.
