Lent Confessions 2014, Day 25: The funny thing about seeing - TopicsExpress

Lent Confessions 2014, Day 25: The funny thing about seeing celebrities in places where you dont expect to see them means that, for some, it takes a moment or two for the recognition factor to set in. The film Big Fish was being shot in Montgomery shortly after I graduated from Huntingdon. This meant that for a short while my old neighborhood became the stomping ground for Obi Wan Kenobi, Mr. Pink and Bellatrix Lestrange. I was travelling through town and was going to meet some friends for lunch at our favorite neighborhood restaurant. I got there a bit early and I saw a familiar-looking woman standing near where the hostess kept the menus. We made eye-contact, and I smiled. In my mind I was certain that I knew who she was, but just couldnt place her. I just assumed she was a regular who I used to know peripherally. I made small talk, and then I guess I assumed that she was a waitress because I told her that I was meeting some friends for lunch and well need a table for four. She gave me a vacant look, but the nice guy in me decided not to press the issue. I just thought she was being sort of rude for a waitress. Moments later my friends came in and we made our way to our table. The owner of the restaurant (my boss while I was in school) came by to say hello. I mentioned that he must be dredging the bottom of the barrel to find his help. He asked what I meant, and I told him that his hostess/waitress was kind of cold. At that time, the familiar face who I had almost chastised was greeted by her lunch companion whose wiry hair and shaded glasses made Tim Burton instantly recognizable. Im glad I didnt take a more forceful approach with Helena Bonham-Carter. Mea Culpa.
