Leonard Hamrick Paul Wright I remember Vic Hyde and I am thinking alot of other people do too! So I am starting a post just about him! Victor (HEIDE) HYDE : Obituary Surnames: HYDE, HEIDE, MASSNICK, HYDORN Musical Comedian Vic HYDE dies at 82 - Niles, Vic HYDE, known as the Modern-day Pied Piper, multitrumpeteer, and international musical phenomenon, died Wednesday in Alachua Nursing Center, Gainesville, Fla, after an illness. He was 82. Mr. HYDE, of Hawthorne, Fla., formerly of Niles, traveled the world with his one-man band comedy show. Some 65 instruments were part of his act, and he played some at the same time. He played at the 1978 Four Flags Area Apple Festival in Niles, the first time he had played in his hometown in his 50-year career, he told the Tribune. He had played for Rudy Vallee, Sophie Tucker, Guy Lombardo, Liberace, Ella Fitzgerald, Lawrence Welk, and Frank Sinatra in the 1930s and 1940s. He also played for the Osmonds, Bob Hope, Johnny Cash and Bobby Darin. He had played for the Queen of England and for Presidents Harry Truman, Dwight Eisenhower and Gerald Ford. He was born Victor HEIDE on June 13, 1913, in Chicago, but he changed the spelling of his last name after receiving mail proclaiming him to be a Nazi with the German Heide handle. He was given the title of Honorary Mayor of Niles after having played for Queen Elizabeth II and the Royal Family. He was a member of the Lions Club and was an avid collector and restorer of antique cars, having once owned the worlds largest collection of three-wheeled vehicles. Mr. HYDE moved to Hawthorne in 1981 from Niles. He had been married five times. Surviving are two daughters, Toni Vanessa HYDE of Hawthorne and Vicki Delys HYDE of Orlando, Fla; a son, Paul MASSNICK of St. Paul, Minn; one granddaughter, a sister, Betty HYDORN of Niles; and two brothers, Eric M. HEIDE of Stuart, Fla., and Robert F. HEIDE of South Bend. There will be no services. Cremation has taken place. Memorial contributions may be made to the Hyde Memorial fund, P. O. Box 1707, Hawthorne, FL 32640, to benefit the bands and students of C. H. Price Middle School of Interlachen, Fla, and Niles.
