Less than twenty four hours away from turning twenty five. That - TopicsExpress

Less than twenty four hours away from turning twenty five. That already sounds poetic, right? :) I have never been a big birthday person, but I do like to use the birth date as a time to reflect on life. Continuing to add self consumed BS to the internet (look at me, give me likes/comments), I created a list of twenty five things I have learned thus far. This is not ground breaking information, but a simple list of thoughts that have stuck with me for twenty five years. 25) Making a refection list is a douche bag thing to do, but sometimes it is necessary to document your thoughts/experiences. Hoping that you get to read it in another twenty five years and say “man, I was a douche bag back then.” 24) Rock bottom has a lot of give. 23) Living on the edge can be romanticized, but once you fall, you better hope to hell that you have someone there to catch you. 22) Reflect on your mistakes often, but don’t let them cripple you. This is a necessary balancing act that must be used every day to progress into a better person. 21) “I don’t know” has become a comfortable phrase. Contradicting ideas and values are a good thing. This means that you are still trying new things and challenging everything you thought you knew. 20) When it comes to beliefs, don’t be the dick that corners people and tells them how stupid they are for believing something. If there cannot be a healthy discussion from both parties, don’t waste your time or theirs. 19) Embrace technology, but don’t let it control you. 18) Get out of your head as often as possible. 17) Go outside more and travel as often as you can. 16) Multitask less and absorb more details. 15) Get a dog, cat, monkey, or non human companion. They are just there when no one else is. 14) Sleep is very important, but late nights are a dear friend that should be visited often. 13) Keeping your blood clean and your body lean is worth the investment. 12) “Chess is life” so learn how to make a move and accept the outcome of each move made. Play more Chess!! 11) When added up, the little things create the big picture. So enjoy them all. 10) Simplify everything. 9) Talk less, listen more and reflect often. 8) Addiction and mental illnesses are very real. Help others help you. 7) Learn who and what you DON’T want to become first. This clears up the path. 6) Ego can be a self destructive element of the human psyche. Sometimes it is fun to let that little bastard run free, but often it creates a big mess for the long run. Learning that you are not that special after all is extremely liberating, so don’t take things personally (easier said than done). 5) Mixing passion with livelihood is playing with fire. It can be done, but you better watch your back Jack! 4) Important relationships are a two way street and should never be disposed of. Spend the time necessary to develop and nurture those. 3) Keep some things private and find your dark room to be creative in. 2) The majority of these life lessons have come through the pursuit of creating music with others. Music is a daily reminder of how small I am in this fragile thing called life. It is a close friend that has literary introduced me to the best people this world has to offer. 1) Love and people are the most important aspects of life. I am nothing without my family and friends. Love and knowledge from these beautiful people has gotten me through twenty five years and will hopefully get me through twenty five more! #allofyou#thankyou
