Let Us Fix Malawi: “Our economy is in a sorry state and, in general, Malawians are on average poorer than they were in 1964. “What has gone wrong? What is it that we were supposed to do that we did not do properly or not done that resulted in our country sliding backwards?” – HE. Prof. Arthur Peter Mutharika Mr President, there is a lot that has gone wrong. Sadly, there is more that is still going wrong. I therefore propose that we do not waste out time pointing fingers, but we must focus all our mental energies on clearly diagnosing the root causes of our economic problems and prescribing lasting solutions. Then, we must organize and commit ourselves to IMPLEMENT the prescribed solutions no matter how tough, bitter or painful they might be. As the newly elected President of the Economics Association of Malawi (ECAMA), my duty will be to assemble the brightest of our economic minds to work with the government in the “Fix Malawi’s Economy” project. We will do it and we will not rest until we make Malawi a better place to do business, to work, to raise our children and live in. Failure is not an option.
