Let me be clear. I know what I am incredibly lucky. I have the most loving family, with an amazing husband and two wonderful children that fill my heart to the brim. We have a happy home and the advantage of being able to get by on one income so one of us can care for the kids full time. I have family, friends and have never experienced deprivation or ill health. Those of us that enjoy a lifestyle with access to quality accommodation, education, health, leisure and disposable income are in a privileged and enviable position. There are many, many people who do not know this security and have suffered beyond our understanding. Intellectually I can demand myself to be grateful for what I have and to consider all those who would love to have a life similar to mine. But this simple comparison tool does not provide a formula for happiness; if it did those of us in developed countries earning a decent income would be in a continued state of delirious ecstasy. Life doesnt work like that. I find myself needing to search deeper to understand those periods of unhappiness New Post, prompted by the most recent post by Emily at theNest.ie.
