Let me preface this by saying that everything is, I think, fine. The last few hours have been very emotional. Tammy was supposed to touch down in Chicago a couple hours ago. When I called her, however, I got a strange beeping sound before her voicemail picked up. Verizon Wireless Global support told me that her phone wasnt in the U.S. (they couldnt tell me where it was, however, since it isnt a global phone, just that its not within the US network). I hadnt heard from Tammy since Thailand. She was going to explore Bangkok before heading back to the hotel to catch a few hours of sleep before her early morning departure. My mind immediately turned very negative. I recalled all of the tragic stories I had seen about that part of the world on News Magazine programs. I called her hotel there and was told, however, that she had checked out at 5 in the morning. Next I called the airline. After a 20 minute hold I was transferred to someone who was able to tell me that she arrived in Japan. Since her flight had been delayed, Tammy couldnt make the connecting flight. Thats where the information dries up. I was told that it looks like they were putting her on another flight, but there were no other details. Since its not in their system, they think she was put on another airline because otherwise they would have found her in the United Airlines system. They cant tell me which airline or what time she will now be arriving in the U.S. So Im relieved to know that my darkest thoughts in those two hours are unfounded, but it looks like Im going to have an anxious night waiting up for word from her. So much for meeting her at the airport with flowers.
