Lets see: Here are some stats I got from a fan of mayweathers trying to defend him against others saying he shouldnt be considered one of the greats. 1. Hatton 43-0 when Mayweather faced and beat him. 2. De La Hoya 38-4 coming off of a KO of Ricardo Mayorga for the WBC light middleweight title. (Ill give you that he was probably starting his decline as he had lost 2-3 prior to the Mayweather fight). BTW De La Hoya had a title when Mayweather beat him. 3. Mosely 46-5 having won 7 of 8 (losing only to Miguel Cotto in that stretch). Granted after this he did go on to lose 4 of six (with only a win and a draw mixed in). Id say hardly someone who wasnt in the top tier of boxers. 4. Cotto 37-2 when he lost to Mayweather. His only lost in his previous 6 was to Pacquio. Hardly a fighter who isnt top tier (even as some would say great). 5. Alvarez 42-0-1 is probably the only fighter who Id say doesnt really deserve a title of being great on this list. Granted 42-0-1 is fantastic but he didnt beat solid competition. That being said, he wasnt some slouch either. 6. Gatti 39-6 when he fought Mayweather. Now he had won 5-in-a-row and 10 out of his last 12 coming into the fight. I wouldnt call that a fighter on the down-side of a career. As a matter of fact, he was a title holder when Floyd beat him. 7. Judah 34-3 when Mayweather beat him. He had won 7 of his prior 9 when they met. This is one where perhaps the decision loss to Baldomir started the downhill slide for Judah. Ill give you this one. 8. Baldomir was 43-9-6 when Mayweather beat him. He had was 18-0 (with 2 draws) in his prior 20 fights and held two world titles. He also came off of a title win over Gatti. Not someone who was in decline or over the hill. Just sayin, when you look at the facts and really evaluate it, Mayweather hasnt exactly fought slouches, over-the-hill bums, and has honestly beaten very good competition at or near the top of their game.
