Lets talk about education in the State of Antigua & Barbuda. Well start under the PLM Administration then move forward from that point. Under the PLM Administration, Several schools were built and established. Built under the PLM: The All Saints Secondary School, Ottas Comprehensive Secondary, Bolans Primary and Piggots Primary. The PLM established The Pares Secondary School and Clare Hall Secondary School.The PLM also transformed Jennings Primary into a fully fledged Secondary School. In 1972, PLM bought The Antigua Girls High School and The Antigua Grammer School from the Anglican Church and abolished school fees. The PLM also introduced a school bus system for the first time in Antigua & Barbuda. The labour administration protested the school bus system. The PLM trained over 250 Teachers at a college level and trained 4 Librarians at a University level all in the same 5yr period. The PLM also passed the Education Act in the early 70s to create Policy guidance setting the standards, regulations and guidelines for the education system. BETWEEN 1976 and 2004 THE LABOUR ADMINISTRATION NEVER BUILT OR ESTABLISHED 1 SECONDARY SCHOOL. The UNITED PROGRESSIVE PARTY in 9 and 1/2 short years have Established 3 Schools being Glanvills Secondary, Irene B Secondary and The St. Marys School of Excellence. In the not so distant future, the UPP will start construction for the Five Islands Secondary School and Tomlinsons Secondary. We dont need to mention several of the social programs the UPP has set up for the children of our Nation, how many students weve sent away on scholarships. Michael Brown needs to do some research into the history of Antigua & Barbuda and not sound so nonchalant on the radio about past events where teachers were fired upon and beaten under labour.
