Letter #10 to Representative Virginia Foxx: "Dear Representative Foxx, "People continue to be in pain because of your opposition to the Affordable Care Act, and because of your support of the government shutdown. "Two days ago, I wrote you about a student I met who experienced an asthma attack, but couldn’t afford to call an ambulance. Currently, I post the letters I send you on Facebook—partially because I want to inspire others to write their representatives about the shutdown—and my story about the asthmatic student got two responses, both from previous students of mine with illnesses. As students, one had her expenses drained by a very expensive ambulance ride, while the other held off on vital health care that he needed because it was too expensive. "I bet that many other young people struggling to afford college have made similar Sophie’s Choices, but is this suffering necessary? The Affordable Care Act has already required insurance providers to keep young people on their parents’ plans until they’re 26 year old, and the plan as a whole gives them a lower-cost alternative once they’re no longer dependents. "Why are you against the ACA—to the point of shutting down the government—even as it makes the lives of these young people better and easier? "Please stop hurting the country."
