Letter from 10/7/2014--Hello Everyone! This is my week incredible/ fantasticallyawesomelyinsanelygargantuanblessinglycrazycool week. Wednesday Oct 1: Today is the first day of October! Made me miss my mom and my sister because their birthdays are both this month. Today was an average crazy and fantastic day with lots of studying and practicing portuguese. My companion and I have both now memorized the 1st vision in portuguese! He is doing so well I am just so proud. I feel like a mom proud of her son. Maybe more of a dad... Anyway we received 36 new missionaries this week! what?! Yeah, I know, awesome. Now, Elder Katoa and I are helping combined with 3 other elders in charge of taking care of them all and helping them with their MTC experience. Elder Katoa and I take a more relaxed approach in being leaders because we know that they are missionaries and can handle themselves but make it a point to always be available if they have questions. The other leaders in our zone dont exactly take that approach and are very...excited to be helpful :) Sometimes Elder Katoa and I look at each other and think (telopathically) ohhh goodness, come on elders, most of them are older than YOU haha. Anyway it is awesome. Friday Oct 3: Thursday was just another day filled with studying and preparing to be a missionary! Nothing SUPER exciting but today was awesome. My throat has been hurting and I have been getting sick (not the awesome part) but I found these delicious tasting cough drops in the book store, and that is an awesome part. Anyway the most exciting thing that happened today was meeting our new portuguese teacher! (we have 2 teachers now) his name is Irmao Lefevre. He is super cool and speaks SO fast! But the coolest part is: He went on to WHO WANTS TO BE A MILLIONARE! but Wait! HE WON! his show airs Today!! Say WHAT?! he is 24 funny and crazy smart. Sorry ladies he is taken, by a missionary serving in Thailand and apparently she takes care of tigers... Yeah he is a goner. they will be visiting Brazil next year and I have a high chance of seeing him there! Saturday Oct 4: Wow general conference. I cant physically describe how amazing it was. I cant write down everything I want to say about it because of time constraints but I will talk about some of my favorite ideas and subjects. I love when the question was posed where are you faced? It really made me realize just how life should be lived. In everything we need to be facing the lord. That includes life in the mission and outside. So man y times we think we are facing the Lord when in reality with the music we listen to and the movies we watch, we cant possibly be facing the Lord, or at least be facing him the entire time. I wise bishop once counseled me, Where your head is turned, your body will eventually follow. If we have our bodies on the path back to heavenly father but our heads facing the world, out bodies will eventually follow. I want to do my best to keep both facing the Lord and completely remove myself from the things of the world on, and off my mission. When we are completely facing the Lord, that is when the blessings and the abundance of help comes. we can not serve to masters. Also on Saturday I sang in general conference! What an awesome experience! I had so much fun and I felt like I had just seen santa clause. President Monson and the apostles are REAL :O No longer do I just have a picture portrayed on television of them, I have seen and been FEET away! I thought just let me touch you, you dont have to say a word just walk by and let me touch your jacket haha. Sunday Oct 5: More general conference! wow what another amazing session! I absolutely loved it! I have a few favorite talks that I wrote things down about. Elder Katoa and I each took a couple questions to conference to help us be better missionaries and disciples of Christ. We also took a personal question t be answered and both have received plenty of counsel from the Lord and his servants. I was so uplifted by Elder Ballards talk on Staying in the boat of God. It really reminded me of the talk earlier on which way you face and the reoccurring theme of focus. It was followed by another amazing talk by Larry S. Kacker and his talk over being aware of the currents of life Who didnt love Elder Bednars talk? Lets be real. Everyone Laughed like crazy in the MTC. It sounded like we were at a stand up comedy skit! Awesome. I loved general conference and the ability to be able to be in one of the most spiritual places ever to witness it. For our devotional we had an awesome speaker/ football player of the packers/ stake president/ newscaster in Philidelphia: Vai Sikahema (sp). He was awewsome and also made every single missionary laugh and cry with the stories he had from his mission. He is a prime example of never stopping the mission field. Those are the highlights from the week! I am so very blessed and excited to be here! Pictures will be uploaded later because I forgot my port to upload them! I love you all and please be safe and rely on the Lord in all things! God bless all of you. God bless my family and yours! Until next week, Elder Harden
