As the fourth Pillar of Democracy and as the eye of public, I believe you will publish all the views for and against this subject. I firmly believe that this subject has been grossly mis-understood and hence such views are been consistently been coming in the media. I am hereunder in short describing this subject and for detail views my article on, “Hindutava the name made Controversial” in my Blog: vksinghb78.blogspot is there for the citizens of India: “The word Hindu is derived (through Persian) from the Sanskrit word Sindhu, the historic local appellation for the Indus River in the northwestern part of the Indian subcontinent. The word Sindhu is first mentioned in the Rig Veda. The word Hindu was borrowed by European languages from the Arabic term al-Hind, referring to the land of the people who live across the River Indus, itself from the Persian term Hindū, which refers to all Indians. By the 13th century, Hindustan emerged as a popular alternative name of India, meaning the "land of Hindus" “In a judgment delivered in 1995, the Supreme Court of India ruled that "Ordinarily, Hindutva is understood as a way of life or a state of mind and is not to be equated with or understood as religious Hindu fundamentalism... it is a fallacy and an error of law to proceed on the assumption... that the use of words Hindutva or Hinduism per se depicts an attitude hostile to all persons practising any religion other than the Hindu religion... It may well be that these words are used in a speech to promote secularism or to emphasise the way of life of the Indian people and the Indian culture or ethos, or to criticise the policy of any political party as discriminatory or intolerant.” The Gazetteer of India clearly mentions Hinduism or Hindutava as having the same meaning. Indian culture and civilization, had stood the test of thousands of years, has been built, most of all by the labour, sacrifice and wisdom of Hindu sages, mystic saints, savants and patriots and the people themselves. The Hindu Characteristic of tolerance in faith, beliefs and observances has asserted itself, new modes of living together in harmony. There is similarity between customs and habits of the Hindus, Christians and Muslims despite religious disparity.-------- I hope the above referred facts will find attention in your News Paper and media for knowledge and discussion. With high regards, Yours Truly, V K Singh
