Letter that should be appearing in the Johnson City Record Courier Newspaper: A Look Back at 2014--The Rest of the Story Dear Editor, Like many faithful readers, I always enjoy your year in review special section. Reminds us of where weve been as a community, while inspiring us to move forward into the New Year with gratitude and hope. Please accept an addendum to the photo on p.7 which shows the gateway to the property owned by the Pleasant Hill-Rocky Community Club (PH-RCC) captioned The court battles begin between Pleasant Hill/Rocky Community and Trent Lindig over the rightful ownership of the property. This mention in reference to the eviction notice and resulting lawsuit filed by local attorney Zachary Hudler against the PH-RCC on behalf of his client, Mr. Lindig, in September of 2013. Thus began the battles to which you refer. In December of 2014, you reported the presiding judge ruled that reversion of the property to the plaintiff has not occurred and that the PH-RCC holds current title to the property. He did allow the plaintiff to file with the Third Court of Appeals in order to move the case forward to trial. This action may take many months, at great expense to both parties. Despite the extraordinary stress and strain imposed on the Club, its officers and members over the past 18 months, we were able to pull off a record-breaking event on November 1st. The 56th Annual Smorgasbord raised over $ 10,400 from loyal patrons who believe in our historic mission. Two weeks later, the membership gave away every penny of the proceeds to worthy community organizations, including several featured in your current edition: YCAP, Blanco County Youth Council, JC Fire Department, scholarship recipients from the JC Community Education Foundation and the Hill Country Memorial Wellness Center. Finally, the public should know--not one dime of Smorgasbord contributions was ever used to fund our legal services. Further, with the extended lockout of our property imposed by the plaintiff during 2014, we were unable to hold Club functions, host the monthly 4-H meetings or provide the facility for family reunions, weddings and other community events from which the nominal rental fee charged pays our utility and insurance expense. The battle continues into the New Year. Weve raised and expended thousands of dollars in legal fees. Several members have spent hundreds of volunteer hours researching the history of the Club and other legal documents in preparation for court hearings. Our officers have taken precious time away from family and work to be deposed and provide testimony at those hearings. Time, money and resources that could have otherwise furthered the singular mission of the PH-RCC--to support worthy non-profit organizations in their own good works. Since 1958. We need your help...NOW. If youve sat on the sidelines, and left financial and moral support to others...its time to step up and be counted in 2015. Checks made out to PH-RCC, memo SOS (Save Our Smorgasbord) are gratefully received at P.O. Box 378, Johnson City 78636. Letters to the Editor in support of the mission are always welcome. Keep the story alive, as you come and go in our community--lets end this senseless and regressive action sooner than later. And lets give the Johnson City Record Courier plenty of good news on which to reflect this time next year! Thank you. Lindy Segall Member, PH-RCC
