Letter to Sen Bennet Dear Sen. Bennett My name is Robert van Vynck, I am a Colorado resident who lives in Loveland, I was listening to Colorado Public Radio on November 14 and I heard a story being reported that there were housing discrimination cases being investigated due to immigrants that were possibly discriminated against while looking for housing after the September floods. The reporter interviewed two families, the two families admitted that the parents were here illegally in the United States and they had lost everything in the floods, they went on to say that one family received a check from FEMA for $30,000.00 and the other family received a check for $27,000.00 to help them find new homes and to replace lost belongings. I am aware of federal housing discrimination laws, regardless of immigration status, although I do not agree with this law, my question is why does FEMA cut checks from the US taxpayers to assist people that are in this country illegally? I want to make it clear that I bear no ill will towards either of these families , they obviously are in need of shelter, food etc..what I do have a problem with is why this is acceptable for the US Government to issue funds to illegal aliens? Why cant the local charities assist these folks that are here illegally? As a veteran who is aware firsthand of the cuts to the programs and increases in costs that are being made to the programs that assist Veterans and I find it irresponsible, immoral and frankly very disappointed that our government allows this to happen. As a elected official I would expect that you would ensure that the people that served this country are given priority over those who are here illegally, I would also expect that as an elected official you would feel the same sense of anger that our Federal Government is that inept to allow this. The United Staes has Veterans that are returning from combat that have some severe mental and physical wounds, they did what they were asked to do, by your peers , our elected representatives, many of these folks cant hold jobs, they have a difficult time functioning in society and they are homeless . Yet we take two families that came to this country illegally and cut them a check to the tune of $57,000.00 taxpayers dollars and we tell the homeless veteran to go to a local shelter! Have we no shame? This is not why I served this country and frankly I am ashamed of my Governments actions over the last decade when it comes to standing up for whats right. What I see is a group of politicians that are more concerned with pandering for votes from every politically correct group instead of standing up and saying this is wrong and we get paid to fix it and fixing the problem. Looking at the polls over the last 10 years I would say the average American views the US Congress and Senate the same as I do. I would like to hear your responses on this issue, please do not give me politically correct answers, I can get that every time I hear most politicians speak on the airwaves, I would like to know why you feel this is acceptable and if you do not feel this is acceptable, what are we doing to protect my money and the country I served. Thank you for your time and service, Robert van Vynck
