Let’s Plant Doras Trees… At the Women Development Centre - TopicsExpress

Let’s Plant Doras Trees… At the Women Development Centre yesterday(27 August 2014), General Yakubu Gowon, was on hand and ready to be part of every public stage of Prof Dora Akunyili’s final journey. The retired General started from Abuja, was in Enugu and straight down to Awka and will certainly follow to Agulu for a man almost in his 80s. He isn’t alone…his wife is going along with her at every stop. GOWON, smartly translated to Go On With One Nigeria, is openly expressing the astonishing fact that he hadn’t seen a Nigerian so richly endowed with every inkling that oozed patriotism. An Amazon who broke gender, ethnic, class barriers to deliver at every level of professional service for dear country. The man, who brought her to global limelight, ex-President Olusegun Obasanjo, another retired General, sent his wife to follow in the footsteps of the Gowons in recognition of a woman, who was number one on the list of the very few that never disappointed him in office while she fearlessly fought the drug war to submission as the famed DG, NAFDAC. President Goodluck Jonathan flagged off the plethora of dignifying accolades in Abuja and equally sent a strong message in Awka that as Minister Of Information, the great woman was amazing with her bold efforts towards rebranding Nigeria. The Anambra State governor, His Excellency, Willie Obiano and his wife, Her Excellency, Mrs Ebele Obiano were on hand to not only receive the corpse but also add emotion-laden words of tribute for our departed heroine. Indeed, Nanka, Agulu, Anaocha LGA, Anambra State , Nigeria and the world have lost an extremely virtuous woman, who swept along over 800 awards in her wake within a lifespan of just 60 years. While we, Alo Umunne, aptly being represented at every stage of this journey, observed this chronological passage to eternal oblivion, we cannot wait for her to be lowered to mother earth today at her husband’s residence in Agulu without asking, WHEN CAN WE HAVE ANOTHER HER? Her sojourn on earth spanned a very astonishingly bold journey to affect every life within several thousands of kilometres around her that we may never be blessed with yet another Amazon, who could replicate such enduring excellence at every turn. We can only make her live on by grasping the very last wish she made at the National CONFAB, while the heartless ailment that snatched her away was very glaringly biting deep, ‘’a nation grows when old people start planting trees they know quite well that they wouldn’t be around to sit under the shed.’’ Let’s plant those trees today for our children…let’s build a virile nation …let’s bury ethnic differences … the way this amazing woman wanted. Let’s immortalize her forever with these acts. Alo Ummunne will forever mourn this first Nigerian Woman President our great country would have gladly had. - Tai Emeka Obasi Director of Communications, AU Alo Umunne, also known as G-20, is a Group of core APGA loyalists that power APGA GLOBAL INITIATIVE [ A.G.I ] and All Progressives Grand Alliance Diaspora on social media.
