Liberty Hill --- Still a few of these around here and there. When I was in high school I used to visit with one of the fire watches up in one of these. I will never forget walking up all of those stairs and entering through the trap door. The old guy was a an old Navy Veteran, he showed me the procedures of reporting fires. There was a large compass on a table in the middle, and he just sat there all day looking out for signs of fire. When smoke was spotted, he could plot the bearing on the compass and call it in on the radio. Pretty low tech, but is was kinda neat in a way.
