Life Lessons from people in the Bible - JOSEPH Matthew 1:24 ‘When Joseph woke up he did what the angel of the Lord had commanded him and took Mary home as his wife’ Matthew 1:19 says that when Joseph heard that Mary was pregnant, he had decided in his mind to quietly put her away since he did not want to expose her to public disgrace. Here in this instance Joseph was not aware that he too was a chosen vessel in the plan of God and he almost made a very big bad decision in the flesh to break up with Mary. Yes my dear friends never make a decision based on your human knowledge, ability or experience. You will end up making a big bad decision that could end up with you falling outside the plan of God. Proverbs 3: 5-6 says ‘Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge Him and He will make your paths straight’. Luke 34:10 ‘The Lions may grow weak and hungry, but those who seek the Lord lack no good thing’. Yes my friend Joseph should have got down on his knees and sought the Lord immediately instead of relying on his earthly wisdom in making such a hasty decision. This decision almost cost him a supreme opportunity of being a part of the glorious plan of God. So whenever before you make any decision, seek the Lord first in prayer and He will guide you to make the correct decision whether it be something big like buying a house, marriage, a business decision or even a small one like even how you should arrange your living room. People of God; the Lord wants to be involved in every aspect of our life. That is the communion and relationship the Lord had with Adam in the Garden of Eden prior to the fall of Adam and He wants to have this close relationship with you today. Thank God for His mercy for He sent His angel to Joseph to tell him of the Plan of God for his life. The angel told him do not be afraid to take Mary as his wife because she is carrying the Lord Jesus in her womb and He will save his people from their sins. What happened next speaks volumes about the character of the man Joseph. He obeyed the word of the Lord instantaneously. I am sure that his family and friends would have told him are you crazy, what about your reputation and all other evil things to poison his mind. But Joseph took the Lord at His word just like Mary did. People of God many will say because an angel spoke Joseph listened. However the choice to obey was Joseph’s. A normal man would have surely thought if I do as what the angel says what will people think of me, what about my name, my reputation, what about my career, what about my family name and all that. I am sure many of us would have done the earthly thing to proceed with breaking up with Mary but Joseph stood firm in his faith in God and obeyed the Word without even questioning the angel. Now that is an important point. Joseph did not utter a word of doubt nor did he even ask a question for clarification. He followed what the Lord told immediately. People of God you want that abundant blessing of the Lord, obey what the Lord says immediately. Many people whom we minister, in their human wisdom begin to question how, why, when and what at the Word of the Lord. Because of this questioning, many a prophecy that is spoken from the mouth of the servants of God do not come to pass in the lives of people and then they accuse the servant of God of being a false prophet. People of God for the word of the Lord to come to pass in our life just like Mary and Joseph did we too have to lay ourselves as living sacrifices on the altar of the Lord (Romans 12:1) and obey the Lord immediately without questioning the rationality of what the Lord is saying. That is the kind of confidence, trust and hope you should have in the Lord that what He says is good and thus I will obey it unconditionally. Yes unconditional obedience to the Word of the Lord that is what activates the plan of God in your life. So my dear friends just like Joseph did, just like Mary did, let us take the Lord at His word and obey Him immediately without even asking single question just unconditionally obey Him. I can guarantee you when you do that the overflowing blessing of the Lord will start to flow in your lives. Praise the Lord for His Word which has power to save, deliver and set free.
