Life doesnt do anything to you, it just reveals your spirit.---Unknown. Okay first Id like to thank Rafael Melendez of Amerikick Rockland, NY Mark Jacobs and Phil Dunlap and Scott Fairlamb (in spirit, couldnt make it tonight) for their support at my fight tonight. And Id like to thank John Carlo and Mike Culp for inviting me and the referee, Jessica T OBrien was superb. So on that note, I just had my first Muay Thai fight. And although Ive boxed twice and done eleven MMA fights. It was a whole new world. And I had a lot of fun. I almost had 2 fights in one night (Almost 3 for the day, but thats another story. It would have been unsanctioned in Allendale New Jersey). First a couple weeks ago I was offered 105, my own weight class and it was finally my real size. However, earlier this week Phil Dunlap called me and said, John Carlo and Mike Culp of Akbf Fight League had another fight as well. The other opponent also Muay Thai was a 135 pound fight and her opponent couldnt make it. So a twofer, I said, Ill take it. Both right? Phil, said, Yes. I replied, We might need to space them, you tell me. Phil has recently said, Youre still an infant in this game. I told Phil tonight after the fight, Tell it to the Marine. Cause I dont know too much. So rewind now, Rafael and Phil in my corner. Mark not too far away (Oh yeah, hell critique me, for certain). Something happened to my 105 fight. I was on then I had one fight, then I had two fights, it was on, then at 9:40am this morning I hear I have only a 135 fight; so I try to fatten up after my morning pre-fight run. I couldnt get past 105.5 before I left my home. Oh well... I figure, God has other plans. So I get there Im like stuffing my face after weigh-ins and am 105 with clothing on. Oy... So Im up top of bleachers, by the way beautiful arena and eventually quite packed. Awesome! Then I hear Ill have two fights. My heart leaps for 5 minutes and I look at Phil and say, You think I can ramp it up now? I felt like a guy whos wife just said, Hey baby, the headaches gone, lets get it on. And now I have to perform twice. I turned to Phil and said, I need an answer. I got to reset the brain. And I have to stop eating. And I was having fun pigging out too. So I get calm in 5 minutes and say to Phil, Okay call Rafael and Mark and let them know Im probably going first and last. Phil asks, Whats Rafaels number? Of course I left my phone in the car in an undisclosed location (Like Dick Cheney). But the Rainman prevails and Ive already pinned to my rolodex in my brain. Yes, I dial people twice and its just stuck in there in some kind of important order. Well, very long story 40 minutes later then I got only one fight at 135 pounds and Were the last fight of the night. So let the fighting begin. The girl was good, Jessica I believe was her first name. She used her push kick and her clinching very well. She won by decision. However, I did improve on my skill set. I did something Scott wanted me to use. He was on my case May 30th and June 2nd about this. Something Id never accomplished in a fight, checking kicks. Scott Fairlamb, I checked at least 3 kicks, Phil said 4 possibly. As Soon as I did this, I hate to say, I almost celebrated. Then I did something Id also never accomplished, I threw at least 5 kicks. Ive never kicked in competition. And really just learned how to do them correctly recently. It only took me a year or so. But it was something Phil and I never thought I would do. And I actually took an angle, WHoa! Anyway, I cant wait to fight again.
