Life is an awesome series of moments…coming home from dinner just now, jumped in taxi, cab driver is chatty, but soooo nice. He looks Bhutanese. One of my favorite countries. I ask. Turns out hes from Nepal (sooo close). Were chatting. Hes so funny. Keeps asking me about whether I live with my parents, etc. I keep telling him Im a grown up so no longer need to (probably debatable). Hes been in New York only six months! He cant get used to all the people who are single, but dont live at home. Were genuinely laughing and having fun. We exit off the Brooklyn Bridge onto Cadman Plaza – NOT for pedestrians – but theres this hapless girl trying to hail my taxi. She doesnt understand Im in it so its not available. I tell the driver that this chick clearly needs help, so he needs to roll down the window and tell her to get in. He does, she does. She is adorable. From Turkey. Another country I love. She has arrived in America THREE HOURS AGO (!!!) for a friends wedding in Williamsburg and has gotten off at the wrong subway stop. Has NO idea where she is. Has been trying to catch a taxi forever (DUH). She is literally on the BK Bridge off ramp. I love Istanbul, where she is from, exactly. Now the three of us are laughing. Justin Timberlake comes on the radio. Now were taxi dancing. Alas, we get to my house. SAD! But like all great moments, its meant to be short. Im just passing through, shes got a wedding to go to on Kent Ave in Williamsburg, and taxi driver has just started his shift. I gave them directions to Billyburg and got out.
