Life lesson #11 As humans we can stand anything except a succession of ordinary days. Flashback to a warm summer day picture a young white haired boy three weeks into summer vacation thats twenty one days of ordinary something has got to give. There were two other boys that lived on first east and they served as a last resort for entertainment and if ever there was a day for that this was it. Randy and Jeff just happened to be walking up the street toward Randys house. The young boy hollered out to them, where you going and whats in the bag. Randy replied, nails from the lumber store. Then Jeff added ,were gonna build a tree fort. They then invited the young man to join them. Well seeing how our young hero was the only one that had used a hammer he was automatically voted head framer on this job. It took awhile but soon there was a floor about eight feet up in a tree. Time for some walls Randy insisted on taking over the hammer cause it was his dads. Now they had watched how it was done so they were sure it was easy. Randy tried but couldnt connect. Jeff decided he would hold the nail for Randy. 1-2-3 the hammer came down hitting Jeff on the wrist but he sucked it up wiped away the tears and assumed the position. 1-2-3 the hammer came down and smashed into Jeffs thumb of the other hand that wasnt even holding said nail. That was it he climbed down and was off for home. I guess construction wasnt his gig.. The two boys watched as he disappeared around the corner. After a little ribbing Randy decided he could do it. He returned to the task at hand. Now with stern determination he closed one eye then tapped the nail into place so it would stand by itself. He set the head of the hammer on the nail slid back 1---2---3 pulling the hammer upwards as hard as he could to increase the power of the return as if to drive the nail in one pound. Time slowed down to a crawl THWACK!!!! The claws of the hammer sunk into the top of Randys scalp.. He instinctively Grabbed at the pain and then looked at his hand at some droplets of blood he then fainted and fell toward the ground before he hit the ground the white haired kid had jumped and hit the ground mid stride and was on his bike. He was halfway home when he heard Randy screaming. Randy lived of course and ended up with stitches and a bruised ego. In the words of Kenny Rogers you gotta know when to walk away and know when to run! That was probably the last time that the if your not there you cant be blamed worked. Once you reach a certain age you have to resort to these two words wasnt me! Were all in this together! Now go be awesome!
