Ligao City bags Ibalong Festival street presentation awards LEGAZPI CITY, Sept. 1 (PNA) -- The street presentation relivingthe vital chapters of the Ibalong mythology on Saturday afternoon highlighted this year’s celebration of Legazpi Citys Ibalong Festival with the contingent from Ligao City winning the championship and several other awards. The epic street presentation featured six contingents from different schools all over the Bicol Region that paraded in the streets wearing masks, costumes creatively designed using native materials, colorful floats and danced to drum beats as they chanted to imitate the appearances of three Bicol ancient heroes -- namely Baltog, Handyong and Bantong -- and other ancient heroes and villains, portraying the classic battles in myth. The contingent of the Local Government of Ligao City was declared champion, taking home PHP 300,000. The group also also received a cash award of PHP 50,000 as best in street dance and another PHP 50,000 as best in dance ritual exhibition. Tiwi Central School from Tiwi, Albay, was named first runner-up, receiving PHP 200,000 as prize and was recognized as best in music and sounds. The Tribung Oragon of Legazpi City became the second runner-up, taking home PHP 100,000. The traditional street dance competition was also participated in by Gallanosa National High School from Irosin, Sorsogon, Laganac National High School from Balatan, Camarines Sur; and Tribung Tabaknon from Tabaco City. The colorful presentation started from the St. Agnes Academy through Rizal street to the downtown area in front of the LCC Mall. Mayor Noel Rosal said he was confident that Ibalong street presentation can compete with other festival as it shows the best of the Bicolanos. He said the event was one of the relief given to Typhoon Glenda victims, aside from the recovery efforts. After Typhoon Glenda we gave them another life and strength because if we did not pursue the celebration, they would just feel the wrath of the disaster, Rosal said. The month-long celebration that started last Aug. 3 featured activities such as trade fairs, youth art exhibits, tours, sports competitions, adventure events, stage shows and beauty pageants in promotion of the citys brand as “City of Fun and Adventure.” (PNA) FPV/FGS/AMM/CBD/
