Like a city whose walls are broken through is a person who lacks self-control. Proverbs 25:28 They said to me…”the wall of Jerusalem is broken down, and its gates have been burned with fire.” When I heard these things, I sat down and wept. For some days I mourned and fasted and prayed before the God of heaven. Nehemiah 1:3b-4. Nehemiah was broken hearted when he heard that Jerusalem’s walls were broken down. He was emotionally moved, he wept. That’s why we see him mourning, fasting, praying before God. In Old Testament times walls around a city represented strength, security. Without walls they cannot defend themselves from attack, no protection. In the same way, a person who has no boundaries, no walls, no self-control is like a city with no walls. When we fail to have boundaries we are open to attack. Just as a wall or fence keeps out intruders or animals—so, spiritual boundaries and disciplines protect us from the enemy attack of frustration, anger, rebelliousness, disunity, etc. If you notice areas of your life where you sense chaos or feelings of being out of control—examine your heart and seek the Lord. Maybe boundaries need to be set or repaired. And the Lord will help you! He will strengthen you to rebuild the walls of spiritual protection. When we come and ask forgiveness and give Him total control! Be encouraged! Our God is a mighty God! He will restore! He will redeem! He will strengthen us in our weakness! May God bless you today.
