Like the desert itself, the beauty of the Omaheke, known today as the Kalahari, and the veld that surrounds it is inescapable. But beauty can be deceiving. This unforgiving land became both executioner and unmarked burial ground for the Herero during the 1904 genocide. A few, like 12-year-old Jahohora, survived. Living by her wits and the lessons her parents taught her, Jahohora hid in this harsh landscape, all alone, for two years. In the words of Paramount Herero Chief Kuaima Riruako, Jahohora’s life portrays the suffering, perseverance and resilience of the Herero and Nama as they faced their most daunting test. https://facebook/pages/Mama-Namibia/374261072688958
