Linked In Devotion Day 29: The shoes and shield Ephesians 6:15-16: “…and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. 16 In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one.” The shoes of the Gospel of peace refers to a state of readiness that enables us to go wherever God leads and compels us forward with the Word of God alive in our hearts and the power of God at work in us. The Good News of Jesus and what He has done in and for us should give us mobility and agility, boldly moving forward as we seek to share it with others. The shield of faith is able, according to Paul, to extinguish every arrow the evil one can shoot our way. Our faith in God’s goodness, faithfulness and provision is what protects us against the lies of the enemy that seek to destabilise and destroy. As our faith grows, so do our shields, providing greater protection. Faith is what protects and defends us. It is a faith that trusts in the unchangeable and immovable character of our good God, no matter what we may face. A faith that believes, even when it doesn’t understand or see will help us extinguish the fiery arrows of fear that constantly come our way. A faith that holds on to God’s nature when we don’t understand His actions or the things happening around us is what will enable to us to stand firm and hold on.
