Listening to Inside Tennessee this morning. So disappointed in - TopicsExpress

Listening to Inside Tennessee this morning. So disappointed in the candidates running for the seventh district and eleventh at large seats. They obviously are going to continue the ill will that exists between school Board and Commission; whether it is promoting their idea of where new schools are needed or deciding which areas of curriculum are essential. They all cited opinions as facts, for instance saying that children who attend Holston Middle school are on the bus for two hours a day. Repeat a lie often enough and eventually even you will begin to believe it. According to Google maps Gibbs High School is 9.4 miles from Holston Middle and can be traversed in 15 minutes. Now when you add stops for the bus that is obviously extended, but any child who lives in the Gibbs High School zone and attending Holston is not riding the bus for 2 hours. According to Dr. Rick Grubb, the longest bus route in the Gibbs zone is 1 hour and 15 minutes. The candidates also commented on Common Core and except for one candidate, Michelle Carrigan, you could tell that they did not understand it. So sad that people who are running for public office are so ill prepared to understand the issues. If a Gibbs or Hardin Valley Middle School is needed it is up to the School Board to evaluate and decide, then they need to approach the Commission and present their case for the need. It is not Commissions job to decide which community needs additional schools just whether Knox County can afford to fund the project. Justifying the need is up to the School Board.
