Specific details aside, the news anchor was talking about legislating "exotic" pets, and brought us back to this one more time: "Because animals are property, they can only be legislated at the provincial level, as property laws fall under the provinces jurisdiction." And the final blow -- the snake was captured, and even though he or she was only acting on their natural behaviour, was killed and sent a lab for investigation. It is a horrible, horrible tragedy. I am so sorry for those parents, and for the snake who deserved so much better than life in an aquarium.
