Little update on my latest matches thursday i was at partridge for the open, only 8 turned out on the tuesday due to the horrendous weather so thursday the was alot of eager anglers wanting to get out 45 infact, i drew peg 40 on pool 2 which i must admit is my least favourite lakes of the 4. I had a steady day though managing 43 fish for 73lb which was enough to win my lake but not frame overall gary whalley won the match off 87 with 107lb. Yesterday i was back at heronbrook for the angling times winter league and i drew peg 44 on the match lake. I didnt fancy this on paper as your up against 4 end pegs plus the fliers 5 and 7 so a top half finish would be hard. I started the match on a 24gr guru pellet feeder with a 6mm hard pellet on the hook and got off to a great start with 8 fish for 20lb in the first 40 mins, i was hoping to have a nice day on the feeder but bites completely dried up so a switch to the long pole was needed an this is where i caught the rest of my fish, couldnt catch anything short or on the feeder after this but managed to pick off odd fish throughout the day to finish with 50 for 88lb. 112lb won the match from end peg 9 on match and the other end peg managed 87lb so i managed 2nd on my lake but also in the match as the other lakes had fished really hard so i was made up with that as there was 80 on the match so i managed another 4 matchman points to take me upto 70 for the season. Team wise we had a brilliant draw and tbh if we didnt win off that draw we never would, we finished with 18pts on the day to comfortably win and were now winning the league overall so a good day all round. Today iv been back to partridge and drew 101 on lake 5. This lake fished rock hard yesterday with 35lb winning the lake so i didnt know what to expect but after 18 fish in the first 45 mins across my hopes were soon alot higher. The wind then got up and i couldnt get across but i managed to catch another run of fish from a new line down the side towards the bridge and after 2hrs i had 35 fish but this is where it all went wrong the deep water line i was relying on never really worked and my match fizzled out, i managed to pick fish off the rest of the day but you need a good run of fish on here to compete as there not quite as big as the other lakes. I finished with 64 for 70lb which easliy won my lake and was hoping it would be enough to frame but there was a strung of 80lbs infact 85lb won with 78lb 6th so a good close match in the end but a section win was all i had to show for it. Not a bad weekend though plenty of bites just hope it doesnt rain too much in the next few week and we should still have some decent fishing ahead before winter kicks in.
