Liverpool striker Luis Suarez is considering taking the club to court for blocking his transfer to Arsenal. The Uruguay international might take his case to the Court of Arbitration for Sport, just as he did to ensure his transfer from Groningen to Ajax in 2007, sources close to Suarez told the BBC. The parallels with his previous legal action are obvious. In 2007, Groningen rejected a transfer bid from Ajax, even though Suarez was eager to make the move. He brought the court action to force them to sell. Now Arsenal are his preferred destination and Liverpool could find themselves embroiled in a legal process. More details have also emerged about the infamous £40m-plus clause in Suarez’s contract. When he re-negotiated his deal last year, he had requested a release clause of £40m. The Reds refused this and instead proposed a loose arrangement in which they were obliged to act in good faith if a bid of that size arrived. Suarez took this to be a verbal agreement of a release clause. Both parties agree that Liverpool are on safe ground legally in terms of the contract itself, but Suarez feels they have gone back on their word to him. If he decides that legal action is not appropriate, the 26-year-old is expected to submit a formal transfer request to make his intentions crystal-clear.
