Locomotives were not the only metal monsters powered by steam. This iron steed is a J I Case tractor, which at the time of this photo was on the property of the Gold Coast Railroad near Port Everglades, Florida. Its 1970 and Betty & I were living in Florida while I finished my last year in the US Navy. There were a lot of these in Puerto Rico, along with other brands including the Fowler Steam Tackles often seen in pictures working in the cane fields. There is a large fan base for all types of steam engines like this and stationary engines, and each year they have a huge gathering where everyone brings their iron monster to show off, held in south central Pennsylvania. Its worth the trip to see them do their stuff!
