Long ago I had the realization that most of us were going through - TopicsExpress

Long ago I had the realization that most of us were going through the same struggles in our lives. This realization was critical for me and allowed me to feel connected even to people I did not even know. I had met so many successful and confident individuals who were struggling at a very deep level and felt that one day they would be discovered as phonies or fakes. This phenomena absolutely baffled me! So I made it point to begin to share my story. Yes, I love to make you laugh. I love to make you scratch your head. I love to make you spit your coffee in every direction. But I also want to let you know that you are not alone. Regardless of politics, religion, culture, ethnicity, generation, blah, blah, blah. We all want similar things in life. Love. Sense of belonging. Connection. To provide a better future for our children. To give back. To accomplish my goal it was clear to me that I needed to share my vulnerabilities and insecurities. This was not easy... yet it was critical. (even though I also knew my grammar and speech would be judged before my message by some) This concept and expression of vulnerability is the topic for the speech I am writing for Toastmasters. The TED talk by Brene Brown has helped me flesh out more of the speech and magnified the importance of sharing our voice and story. I leave you with this quote from a man I respect immensely for all he does to help the youth find their power in their voice and vulnerability. My voice has power to speak my Truth and share my Light - Alejandro Perez Jr.
