Long ago, human beings decided that they wanted to live forever. With burgeoning imaginations, they told awe inspiring stories that pointed to the mountains and the sky where gods would take up residence. From the hidden corners of the world we dreamed and we found hope for our future. As we grew together, our minds did, too. We began to better understand the world around us and instead of stories passed around a camp fire, our legends became myths, and our myths became religion. Within each culture religion evolved and took a unique shape for each ethnic tribe. Polytheism became monotheism and now most people on earth pray to the God of Abraham. Alongside religion, the dreams of our ancestors were reawoken by knowledge that was opening up new possibilities for awe and wonder. We had grown to love those old campfire stories, though, and some of us still dont want to let go of that dream to live forever. The consciousness raising that can result from studying science burns away the fear that led us to lie in good faith to our children and to each other. You can see that your story is more amazing than any Sunday School teacher ever told you it could be. You are not made in the image of a god, you are made in the image of a supernova, along with everything and everyone around you. You arent just a part of this universe, you are the very fabric and structure of reality itself. Meaning and purpose arent to live forever, they are to live now and open your eyes to the gallery of wonders that awaits the willing mind.
