Long live the influence and memory of Doctor Carlow Justiniano, MD, who died yesterday in a tragic motorcycle accident in Houston. In this life, we each are only promised: .......Fond Memories of our past, .......Participation in the current nano-second, ........And hopes, dreams, visions, and faith in the FUTURE. Doctor Carlos Justinianno, of The Woodlands, Texas, had already had a life full of wonderful memories of a loving wonderful family, including a physician wife of 2 years. He had memories of growing up in Mayaquez, Puerto Rico, graduating from medical school at the University of Puerto Rico, and being a general surgery resident at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston for 3 years, beginning in 2002. He had great memories of great friendships with fellow trainees, including Doctor Jama Jahanyar, who informed me of the tragic motorcycle accident. He had great memories of finishing his surgery residency at Maricopa County Hospital in Phoenix, and completing a Trauma/Critical Care Fellowship at Texas Tech University in El Paso, Texas. Recently, he participated in dreams for making advances, changes, and improving the qulity care of the surgical patients in his area of Houston. I was aware of these visions and and plans and was proud. I had fond hopes of his being part of the now being planned Michael E. DeBakey International Surgical Society meeting to be held in Puerto Rico in 2016 at the Conquistador Hotel. Dr. Ernesto Soltero was planning to use Dr. Justinianno as a major assistant in assuring that Texas and US graduates of the Baylor College of Medicine and MEDISS members would go to Puerto Rico in great numbers. We should all go as a memory to Dr. Justinianno. It is with sadness that we loose a young surgeon, a colleague at such an early age, and especially one with such vision and promise. It is very sad to loose a friend so suddenly. May we each extend condolences to his family during this time of maximum grief and pray that God give them strength and understanding. Kenneth L. Mattox, MD
