Look what I found having a loft tidy up. Big boys toys heaven. Original Scalextric 1980s stuff, original and boxed think tank and fuel tank. Plus a few cars, including the Lotus special F1 car, which was judged by many as the best handling scalextric car ever, in its time. The fuel tank worked very realisticly. So the more you pulled the trigger the more fuel you used. So you had the choice of flat out and have pit stops or take it steady on one tank full. Run out of fuel and the car would stop. The think tank would work out race times, fastest lap, average speeds etc. Pretty good technology in its day. Had plenty a good battle with Charlie Pennington who had his fair share of very suspicious pit stops to gain an advantage. I always like the Porshe. It was not the fastest, but I mastered tailing the back end out around the corners, so blocking my brother from over taking as he tried to out break me after the straight Got about 80-100 ft of track, including the double inner curves, so allowing 4 car races. Got skid chicanes and the hump back bridge Got a number of other cars in a poor state of repair including a Renualt turbo, Elf Ligier, which like the real thing, started to smoke and melted on a hard run. Plus an old Brabham BT44B The Audi was the first ever scalextric car with true 4 wheel drive. Which was a rubber band connecting front and back wheels. You could remove if you wanted to switch to 2 wheel drive. Due to lack of space it has,nt been set up for many years. But who knows, I may fire up the quatro one day
