Looking for energy-saving tips for fall and winter? Here are 7 tips from US DOE: 1) Take advantage of the heat from the sun by opening curtains on south-facing windows during the day. 2) Cover drafty windows with plastic film or insulating drapes or shades. 3) Adjust your thermostat to be as low as comfortable when you are home and awake and 10 – 15 degrees lower when you’re gone or sleeping. Use a programmable thermostat to adjust the temperature automatically. 4) Seal leaks around pipes, chimneys, light fixtures, cabinets, closets, windows and doors. 5) Maintain your heating system by scheduling regular maintenance and replacing the filter. 6) Lower your water heating costs by turning down the temperature. 7) Use energy-efficient lighting, such as compact fluorescent (CFL) or light-emitting diode (LED) bulbs.
