Looking for some much needed advice from all you knowledgable horsey people! I have this little 11.2h blue roan mare of 4 years that I bought for my daughter a year ago. It was an impulse buy as I totally fell in love with her personality. She is so bomb proof and friendly, super under saddle etc. Didnt think Welshies like her existed. I moved yards and then found out she was unsound in the trot. (my daughters 3 so we were only walking, thus I didnt notice it) I had 2 different vets look at her. One said thats just her gait, the other said shes unsound but that its not her stifle or back, but her hip, further very expensive X rays were needed, which I didnt/couldnt do at the time. Vet recommended rest for a year or two, as she was only 3 years old!!! She was a bottle baby and seriously idiotic people backed her at a very young age. I bought her as a 6 year old, non the wiser about her age. She has been resting, and is currently being homeleased at a great place where she is used twice a day for 20 minute WALKING with special needs kids. The lady reported to me today that she is not unsound when trotting on her own anymore, but unsound the moment there is a kid on her and they trot. Not unsound in walk or canter. My question being --- what do I do? Re-home her as a companion? Sell her? Put her down? I CANNOT afford operations, I have spent thousands on her already. Very sad case as she would have been the most super show pony ever. My daughter wants to ride her when shes older, go on out rides with me on the farm etc, but I do not want to let her ride a pony that cant trot as shes in pain! Not fair on the pony, or my child.
