Looking up rare/dumb shit for the PS1 is always an exercise in Man, I cant believe I had this stuff! Of note: 1. An Interact (which is either Mad Catz or PDP now), VMEM system. It was a little thing that plugged into the back of a PS1 (I/O connector) that let you have Virtual memory cards in the system. I think the limit was like 60 cards, so you had 900 blocks of storage. It was quasi-related to the Mega Memory Card, which was a real memory card that had pages (of virtual cards) on it, that you controlled by pressing buttons. An old friend of mine used to have this, but it eventually died on him, and he lost dozens of FF7 saves. 2. An Alps Interactive controller. Google it. Its basically what Sony used as inspiration for the PS3 Batarang controller, that never got released. I remember the Alps one had some goofy trigger buttons, but was actually pretty comfortable to use. 3. A Plug Mod. This was basically a more arcane variant of a Gameshark/Codebreaker at the time. I remember ordering it with my friend Elizabeths help, and it getting shipped to her. The Plug Mod was *way* more import/backup game friendly, and had a cool interface for playing music/movies off of a game disk. It also could used Action Replay codes (mightve just been a re-branded AR at the time), but unlike the Gameshark, it didnt have any built in, which kind of limited the device in that respect. 4. I had both a Jogcon and a NeGcon controller. The Jogcon was the controller with a wheel on the front, for analog steering (that you primarily got with Ridge Racer Type 4 special edition). The NeGcon was a weird Namco controller that I heard was finalized before the official Sony controller specs were out, hence only having two trigger buttons, and not four. Also, the Square/X buttons were seemingly analog in nature, and the controller itself could be turned in the middle for....something? I think it was supposed to simulate analog turning, but it never really worked out, since about 4 games only supported it. 5. Had a DexDrive. It was a device to connect your PS1 memory card to the parallel port on your computer, to download saves from the net/archive saves on your computer. Getting this to work now isnt impossible, but is fairly unwieldy. 6. Had a Lara Croft PS1 memory card. My friend Brian had the Duke Nukem one. 7. Had the PS1 The Glove controller. Unlike the NES Power Glove (which looked cool, but was un-usable), this one was predicated on the idea of theoretically being passable. You put your hand in this glove, and your fingers rested on the traditional buttons: Triangle, X, Square, Circle, as well as a L1 and R1 for ease of use. The thumb had R1/R2, L1/L2 for more finite action, and the entire glove was in a wrist hinge that if you moved your wrist right, that would be Right in the game, left is left, and so on. 8. Had a GunCon. Now I dont. Still want Dave Zdyrkos though. 9. Had at least two other GameSharks, in addition to the Plug Mod. One was a normal grey one, and one was a newer (but I remember worse) black one. Both were fun, and remind me of when cheating in games was something to do for enjoyment. That might be about it. Man, I had a lot of really stupid shit as a kid, growing up. I give credit to my dad (mostly) for supporting my habit back then.
