Loree Lough has a new book coming out soon, Currency of the Heart.....here is my review for her book: Currency of the Heart: Secrets on Sterling Street, book 1***** by Loree Lough In Currency of the Heart we meet Sloan Remington, a young rancher in 1882 Denver, Colorado. Not only does he own and run his ranch just outside of Denver but he owns the Remington Hotel located in the town of Denver. He also runs the Sterling Manufactory, once owned by the late Harper Sterling. Harper was not a good businessman, he had lost almost all his wealth and was on the brink of loosing the Manufactory as well. Seeing no way out, he takes his own life and with his last breath asks Sloan to take care of his wife, Shaina and the Manufactory. Sloan brings the Manufactory back to a successful business and he keeps a watchful eye on Shaina. Of course, he doesnt mind checking up on the lovely, petite Shaina as she has captured his heart. Shaina remains in her large home alone, not venturing outside the doors so her uppity neighbors do not realize she is practically penniless. So much so, she has taken to selling off all her valuables, her favorite horse and even letting the servants go, leaving her home with the bare minimum. Her neighbors would certainly frown on her selling off her valuables but would be more than shocked to learn who she has sold them too. Despite the many challenges she faces, she keeps her faith and continues on the best she can. Shortly after a small earthquake hits Denver, a raging fire destroys her home, leaving her with the clothes on her back and no where to go. But Sloan comes to the rescue once again and takes her to his hotel, offering her a room for as long as she needs one. Shaina plans to board the morning train, even though she is not sure where she will go. However, her plans change when Mable, Sloans housekeeper at the ranch, falls and seriously breaks her leg. Dr. Wilson has put her on strict bed-rest and asks Shaina to care for her. Mable is more than a housekeeper to Sloan, she is like a mother to him as she and her ranch-hand husband, James, have cared for him since he was about 9 years old when he came to the ranch with the late Mr. Remington years ago. Shaina soon feels at home on the ranch and doesnt want to leave. Caring for Mable, James, Sloan and his ranch-hands as well as the home has filled her days with purpose and joy. But one ranch-hand, Leo, sends chills up her spine whenever he is near. She knows him from somewhere, but cant place where. Leo is up to no good and is buying his time until his plans unfold. Will Sloan find out in time what he is up to and put a stop to it? Leo is not the only challenge Sloan will face in the future. Sloan and Shaina both will soon face more difficult challenges in the weeks to come. Both have secrets from their past that they keep well hidden. With their growing attraction to each other, can they share these secrets and once shared will they destroy their love or strengthen it? Can they learn to trust, not only each other but God to heal their past hurts? There are surprises and twists to the story in this heartwarming historical romance that keep you guessing to the end. I enjoyed watching the true-to-life characters tackle their challenges, overcome past hurts, keeping their faith even through the toughest times. I enjoyed Currency of the Heart very much. ~~I received an advanced e-copy of this book from the author for my review~~
