Los Angeles is in an uncomfortable spot when it comes to decidedly Roman Catholic celebrations like Halloween. They may ban it from public schools but each year the city spends thousands of dollars on the waiver permit fees in support of Dia de los Muertos or Day of the Dead celebrations throughout the city. From Canoga Park to Olvera Street and beyond, local politicians press the flesh and get their faces painted in search of votes.
