Lothian Disability Sport Lawn Bowls Championships 2014 Players with a Physical Disability Sunday 10th August 2014 - Longniddry Bowling Club After last years disappointment as the competition was cancelled due to severe weather conditions, we were keen to make a success of this years event. Despite some rain and the threat of Hurricane Bertha, the players battled through the conditions and produced some high quality bowls with the Combined Sections 1 & 5 arguably producing the tie of the day. Stewart Martin and Campbell Ridge battled out a draw after the allocated time limit, entering a final end to determine the runner up spot in the section and it was Campbell who proved victorious after a one shot win which needed a measure to be decided. Carole Martin was ruthless in claiming the top spot and winners trophy in the section, winning all three ties comfortably at her home green of Longniddry. The section also saw another Longniddry regular attend the competition for the first time - Bob Sinclair enjoying some competitive action. Section 4 saw Robert Kelly re-claim the trophy after a years hiatus, performing superbly against his fellow bowlers. Robert Harvey, the visually impaired bowler from the Borders, used the skills of LDS Chair Helen Bruce as director and claimed the runner up spot in the section. This years competition saw a change of venue, with Longniddry Bowling Club kindly volunteering to host the event for the first year. The venue was an ideal venue for the event, with use of Bradshaw Buggies and accessible green making the day a very enjoyable experience for all players. Mike Carey, President of the club, and the staff were extremely welcoming and LDS would like to thank them for their kind hospitality. Results: Section 4 (Ambulant Bowlers and B3) Winner: Robert Kelly (Prestonpans Disability Bowling Club) Runner Up: Robert Harvey (Independent) Section 1 & 5 Combined Winner: Carole Martin (Longniddry Bowling Club) Runner Up: Campbell Ridge (Kirkliston Bowling Club)
