Love and friendship have many facets; on one hand we tend to - TopicsExpress

Love and friendship have many facets; on one hand we tend to become friends with people who have our same interest. But on the other hand, love requires us to care about things that others are interested in when we are not. Maybe as a father, I love sports but my son has no interest in being an athlete but instead loves music and wants to be a musician. Love requires me to care about things I have no natural interest in. This honestly is a great challenge because faking interest really doesnt work. I find this most challenging in marriage. I really love my wife, Kathy. Nothing makes me happier than to see her laughing and full of joy. She has worked so hard at helping me and our children be successful that she deserves some kind of medal in heaven. Kathy LOVES horses; riding them, talking about them, talking to them, and hanging out with other horse people makes her come alive. Personally, I have no natural interest in horses what so ever BUT I love Kathy. Therefore, I try my best to take an honest interest in our 2 horses. I go outside and hang out with them, feed them, and actually I enjoy their company. (They think I am their father or something). However, I have no desire to ride them or be a cowboy at all, which frankly would make Kathy ecstatic. So, I am not sure that I am totally succeeding at speaking her love language but at least I am trying. I give myself a C-...at least its better than failing grade but there is room for improvement. ;)
