Love is giving someone the power to break your heart, but trusting them not to. Why did Jesus ask Peter is he loved HIM? Peter thought it was over after the death of Jesus. In his despondency Peter makes this statement....I go a fishing. He makes his way back to the familiar prior to the heavenly injection in his life. Fishing no longer held the glamour as in the days prior to Jesus. Jesus presence thrust Peter into such a dimension of glory, while walking on the Earth, every fiber of Peters being responded to Jesus with rapturous delight. All truth, wisdom, miracles, correction....brought LIFE to Peter. Now...what will he do? How will he go about his day? There is no way he can return to the norm, yet Peter tries to find some solace from his feelings of displacement I Go A FISHING Could it be he was hoping Jesus would come to him as he did when Jesus first called Peter to follow him? Was all of Peters hope depleted? Just like our God.....Jesus not only comes, HE calls out to them....Children (a term of endearment) have you any meat? They come as quick as they can.....IT is the LORD! Here is Jesus in the midst of his disciples. Jesus addresses Peter - Jesus focuses on Peters heart! Peter do you agape (unconditionally love me) me? twice philia (As a friend, brotherly love me) me? once... Jesus knew Peters heart! Peter and those around needed to understand Peters heart. This conversation had meaning...Peter had to THINK - CONNECT - PROCESS...once the words were spoken from Peters mouth directly to the LORD - restoration was birthed in his spirit. The momentary grip of despondency, resulting from his failures is obliterated, new life and vigor take hold of Peter. His brethren beheld the honest conversation. All is made right between Peter and His Friend - Jesus! Peters steps are grounded and his mind focused! PETER is present on the Day of Pentecost partaking in the out pouring of the Holy Spirit of God! Then he stands up with boldness, and begins to declare the way of salvation! What does love mean anyway? GODs LOVE is Agape (unconditional) love!!! JESUS WILL NEVER BREAK YOUR HEART, BUT HE WILL HEAL IT! (Smiling)
