Love is the greatest… Faith sees the promise of love; hope - TopicsExpress

Love is the greatest… Faith sees the promise of love; hope carries the promise to fulfillment. Faith and hope had a child named love. It was their greatest achievement. They knew the child would remain with them for now but when their days would end, the child would live forever. The apostle Paul concluded that for now, faith remains so that hope will not perish and hope remains so that divine love can be expressed. He knew that a perfect day was coming and the temporal realm as we know it would fade away to a more complete understanding and existence characterized by the eternal nature of love. “…When perfection comes, the imperfect disappears.” (Pv 4:18 cf 1 Co 13:10) The comparative glory of love is that love is eternal; faith and hope are not. Faith and hope are temporal virtues that sustain us in this life until “a perfect day” comes when it is no longer necessary. Love is the “greatest” because it is the transcendent and transforming power of the eternal realm! GOD IS LOVE and he is bringing everything back to WHO he is before he completely returns us to WHAT he has purposed. However, as humans are prone to do, we seek the WHAT before the WHO. Purpose and destiny do not transform us, love does! Transformed by love, we behold destiny and purpose with the greatest clarity. 1 Cor 13:12…Now we see things imperfectly as in a cloudy mirror, but then we will see everything with perfect clarity. All that I know now is partial and incomplete, but then I will know everything completely, just as God now knows me completely. Paul was saying only transcendent love has the power to resolve the temporal tug-of-wars of this life. Only love can bring us to “one mind and judgment” concerning the things of God. Only love can create the proper balance and expressions of body life and gifts of the Spirit. Only love can deliver us from the myopic vision and ambitions of men, “I follow Paul … I follow Apollos, etc”. Your greatest days are now if they are purposed in love. But your greatest day is yet to come! “…Then I will know everything completely, just as God now knows me completely.” But for now; faith and hope remain with us to envision, empower and encourage us to love beyond the limits of the human condition; to love in such a way that the world sees the ONE WHO IS LOVE: The Lord Jesus Christ, the fullest expression of the Father’s heart of love. Love is the greatest…
