Loyalists dump Saraki, declare for PDP A political chieftain and loyalist of former Kwara State governor, Bukola Saraki, Alhaji Tunde Akanbi Oniyo yesterday dumped the All Progressives Congress, APC, for the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, saying that the federal government had been doing its best to transform the lives of Nigerians in all ramifications. Oniyo, who defected to the PDP alongside thousands of his supporters, including women and youths who are mostly students and were received by PDP executive in Gambari Ward 1 in Ilorin-East Local Government Area of the state, also pledged his support for the transformation agenda and re-election bid of President Goodluck Jonathan. While receiving the defectors into the PDP, the ward chairman, Alhaji Abdulganiyu Salman described the return of the party stalwart as a blessing to PDP, assuring that the PDP would win the 2015 elections in the state. “Oniyo is a man of principle who commands respect and huge followership in the local government. His coming to PDP has further depleted the ranks of the APC in the state.” Addressing the mammoth crowd, Alhaji Oniyo said, “You know politics is a game of interest. When you notice that there are some lapses in the party you are and you try as much as possible to correct them, and if those lapses are not corrected, the best thing for you is to move to a party where you can be relevant and you can impact on your people. “I am in this party because I know it is the party of the nation and I believe I will be relevant and able to deliver dividends of democracy to my people. In the previous party where I was, some people normally say that I am a new comer but they don’t know that there are quite a number of people that have spent numerous numbers of years and yet they cannot impact on the lives of their people.”
